Holder of the lowest published rate on the page at $90 a year, and that fact alone earns the podium spot. The first-year billing terms were not something we could confirm, so treat $90 as your planning figure and give the checkout page a careful read.

#4 Rocket Lawyer

$125 flat, identical at every membership tier, no first-year discount found. Predictable, and we rate predictable highly. The agent service comes wrapped inside a full legal platform; whether that wrapper is bonus or baggage depends on whether you would ever open the rest of the toolbox.

#5 ZenBusiness

Best software in the field, and the dashboard is genuinely pleasant to use. Then comes the structure: a standalone agent purchase starts at $99 plus state fees, and renewal lands at $199 a year. Judge the offer at $199. The first-year figure is the marketing; the renewal figure is the relationship.

#6 Bizee (formerly Incfile)

Agent service comes free for three to twelve months when bundled with their LLC formation, package depending, then $149 a year standalone. A fair trade if you were forming anyway. Set a reminder for the day the free stretch ends, because billing at $149 begins quietly.

#7 LegalZoom

The category's biggest brand, priced like it: $249 a year, flat, auto-renewing, with no first-year discount found. That is the highest flat rate in the table, and the job underneath is the same one the $99 services perform. The premium buys the name.

#8 Swyft Filings

$149 billed quarterly, which works out to roughly $596 a year. Nothing about the service itself is scandalous; the billing unit is the trap, because a quarterly quote sitting next to everyone else's yearly quote looks four times cheaper than it is. Run the comparison at $596 and decide from there.

#9 Inc Authority

First year: $0, included, free. Renewal: unpublished. Not in their FAQ, not on the package pages, not on the homepage. When a company keeps its price hidden until checkout or a phone call, the omission is the review. Last place.

Colorado Says Periodic Report, Everyone Else Says Annual Report

The filing other states call an annual report goes by Periodic Report in Colorado, a naming quirk that trips up owners moving in from elsewhere; the Secretary of State's report FAQ covers the details. Every LLC and corporation files one each year through the state's online portal for $25, with a generous window running from two months before your periodic report month through two months after. Blow past the window and the entity goes Noncompliant, which adds a $50 late penalty; stay Noncompliant long enough and Delinquent status follows. Two agent-flavored details are worth knowing: the report is one of the few filings that can update your registered agent information, and submitting it affirms your agent consented to the appointment. A reminder that lands before that window opens is half of what a good agent is for.

Being Your Own Agent Here Takes Two Steps and an ID

Colorado permits a company to act as its own registered agent, something plenty of states flatly refuse, but never in a single motion. Formation paperwork cannot name the entity itself, so the sanctioned route is to appoint a qualifying individual or company first and then file a change moving the role in-house. On top of that, since July 1, 2025, HB 24-1137 requires any individual taking the role to verify Colorado residency with a Colorado driver's license or state ID number. Add up the two-step filing, the ID check, the public address, and the requirement that somebody hold down the desk every business hour, and the do-it-yourself route costs more attention than the $99 route costs money.
